Crush Depth
Alone in a scuttled U-boat on the sea floor at 158 m. Stop the water, keep her from sliding past crush depth and bring her up by hand – a real-time systems simulation.
Meridian Ring, low lunar orbit, 2091. A solar storm has burned through the station's electronics. The crew evacuated while technician Elias Vahl lay sedated after surgery in the med bay – they could not move him. They left notes, a recorded message and a checklist for the lifeboat.
Far Light is a first-person technical survival horror game and systems simulator. There are no monsters. Lock out a 120 V bus and hunt a ground fault with a megger, replace a radiation-damaged chip on a hot-air rework station, weld a cracked oxidizer line by the procedure, fuel the lifeboat at the right mixture ratio, calibrate its gyros and sync its navigation. Every orbit the station's lowest point drops closer to the mountains of Montes Rook. You can watch it happen through the floor of the control room.
Then fly the lifeboat yourself: null the spin, hold attitude through an 815 m/s trans-Earth injection, correct the entry angle after three days of coasting and bring it down through the plasma. Run out of fuel, oxygen or time, or make one wrong move on a live bus – and you will not.
Complex on purpose, but every panel has its placard and every console a help page. Needs a desktop browser with WebGL 2, a keyboard and a mouse. Headphones recommended. Contains disturbing themes (death, isolation).
